A North Branch student is headed to the state spelling bee after a stellar performance at regionals.
Eighth-grader Kobe Yang from North Branch Area Middle School finished in first at the regional competition to boost him to state. It took 145 words and 19 rounds for Yang to take the top spot before winning on the word “vernacular”.
He’ll represent the region at the state spelling bee February 20th.
North Branch 7th grader Elayna Goeltl finished in the top four as well.
