The Braham City Council discussed new radios for the police department during their meeting earlier this week.
The department currently owns fifteen radios which have surpassed their lifespan and new FBI encryption standard requires departments to hold a higher level of security regarding radio transmissions.
The new encryption standard was expected to take effect earlier but Covid forced the standard to be pushed back.
The department looked to obtain four squad radios and nine portable radios with a leasing option which spans over the course of seven years at a total around $73,000.
Council approved of the leasing agreement at a cost of around $12,000 per year, The new radios are expected to arrive sometime near the beginning of June.
