An Isle man has died after a truck went through the ice on Mille Lacs Lake on Friday.
According to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received Friday night about a truck and body located near the MSA Flagship Inn, located at 5357 Whistle Road in rural Isle.
The caller told authorities he was able to recover the adult male and bring him back to shore. The subject was found wearing a flotation device.
The male was transported to the Mille Lacs Health System Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
He was identified as 80-year-old Isle resident Richard Gadbois.
The Isle Fire Department and Mille Lacs Health System EMS aided the sheriff’s office at the scene.
The sheriff's office also reminds residents that ice conditions are not currently safe for cars and trucks. The ice was about six inches deep at the site of the incident; the recommended guideline for a truck is 13 to 17 inches of clear ice.
