Sherburne County announced they will be opening up a second round of funding for internet expansion in the region.
County commissioners approved a $1.5 million grant program to help bring reliable, affordable high-speed internet to more Sherburne County households and businesses, with the funds coming from the America Rescue Plan Act.
The grants will be awarded for projects that provide service designed to reliably meet or exceed a symmetrical 100 Mbps download and upload speeds. The grants will be awarded to service providers for eligible projects that must be substantially completed on or before the end of 2024.
The board stated that investing in broadband is a county priority that creates opportunities to boost growth and prosperity in the region; the county will be accepting project requests until September 30th.
