Area utilities work to restore power after winter storm

Area utilities are working to restore various power outages after Tuesday night's winter storm.

According to a notice, Mora Municipal Utilities experienced outages on Tuesday night that will continue throughout Wednesday due to downed trees, which are being removed from power lines.

MMU is asking residents for patience as crews work to safely restore power.

Around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, East Central Energy reported scattered outages impacting over 500 members, with most located in the areas of Milaca, Wahkon, and Finlayson.

Just before 11 p.m., that number rose to 750, with members in the Braham and Stanchfield areas experiencing blinks, or quick power interruptions caused when ice, heavy snow, or tree branches touch the power lines.

According to an update from ECE communications supervisor Tina Lanhart around 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, scattered outages were still impacting 400 members, with some continuing to experience blinks.

"Crews will continue to work, and all members should be back on by the end of the day," Lanhart said in an email.
