Kanabec County and the Laborers' International Union of North America Local #363, representing Family Services staff, reached a tentative agreement on Monday to avert a strike.
According to a Kanabec County press release, the union members voted in favor of the offer proposed by the county during a mediation session on April 28.
The Kanabec County Board of Commissioners will discuss the tentative agreement during Tuesday's meeting as the next step in the ratification process.
On April 19, Kanabec County received notification that the union members intended to strike beginning May 2. That noticed triggered a ten-day cooling off period, including the additional mediation session.
“We are thankful that a tentative agreement was reached, avoiding a strike,” County Coordinator Kris McNally wrote in the press release. “This has been a difficult time for both parties and we look forward to moving forward as we serve Kanabec County citizens.”
