The Braham Bombers and Maple Lake Irish met for a volleyball battle on Tuesday night. It was what we were all looking for after a summer of stillness. This match was a closely contested bout.
Maple Lake struck first and second. Winning the first two sets 25-14 and 25-21. The Irish are a very disciplined squad. They are very rarely out of position. And for the first two sets, Braham didn’t have an answer.
That was until the third set came about. Braham took control for the majority of the set. They were very consistent, keeping Maple Lake at an arms length for the entirety of the set, winning 25-21. It didn’t stop with the third game. Braham held control for the fourth as well to force a game five, winning 25-22.Â
Braham took nine of the first ten points of the fifth set. Down eight, Maple Lake needed to take a timeout. It proved to be the right move, as they scored 14 of the last 18 points to earn a 15-13 win in the fifth.
It was fun from start to finish. Both squads had distinct positive and negative moments on Tuesday night. Maple Lake showed that they will have a say in their conference and section races. Braham showed that they have the ability to compete with anybody they’ll face in the season, and will make their own stand in their conference and section title chase.
Morgan Rysdam was the Pine Insurance Agency player of the game. Notching five aces and eight kills on the night. Her athleticism was on display all over the court.
The Irish will travel to Royalton on Thursday night.
Braham will be in Pine City to face the Dragons on Thursday night. That match will be live on 106.5FM.
