Many residents are gearing up for the Minnesota Fishing Opener taking place this weekend.
This year’s opener is one of the latest starts to occur, with state statutes dictating the opener to be on the Saturday two weeks prior to the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
Many local bait shops and sporting goods stores are expecting heavy traffic with people stocking up and getting registered.
Don Larson, owner of Jerry’s Sport & Bait Shop in Mora, talked about a lot of people taking advantage of the couple licenses, but making sure people have everything they need to register.
"We really need both people here or else we do need the wife's driver's license when you get one, otherwise it will only print half of it out" stated Mr. Larson.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also wants to remind residents to make sure they are doing their part in the spread of aquatic invasive species like zebra mussels, water lettuce & Chinese mystery snails
