Mora Falls to Aitkin in Conference Battle

The Mustangs baseball team hosted Aitkin on Tuesday.

Mora was able to play a game under the lights against the Gobblers, in an unseasonably warm spring night. But the fans were out in full force to take in the warm weather and a Great River Conference game.

Mora won the first game of the season between these two teams, and were looking for the regular season sweep. But the 1st inning was dominated by Aitkin, tacking on three runs from four hits. Mora was close to getting on the board but an attempted steal at 2nd was caught by the Gobblers to end the inning. The two defenses stepped up a notch and neither team was able to get close enough to try and score. Mora's pitcher Owen Lind, was on a mission to try and help his team close their deficit and his defense back him up. The Mustangs offense struggled to get runners into scoring position and were held hitless, until the 4th inning. In the 4th Mora was was not only able to get their first hit, they were finally able to score a run thanks to a pass ball. With a run finally scored Mora had a new sense of urgency at the plate. Their defense held the Gobblers off the board for 5 innings and now came the 7th inning. Both teams were searching for any way to help their side gain an advantage. Lind quickly struck out the 1st batter, but then Aitkin turned up the pressure. They managed three straight hits while scoring a run. The deficit was still only three and Lind came back to strike out the next batter, but his night was over due to reaching his pitch limit. In stepped Cole Jensen, and although he did give up an RBI single, he was able to strike out the next batter looking. Mora needed at least 5 runs to continue the game and 6 to win. We've seen some very impressive rallies from them in the past, did they have another one in them? Unfortunately for them, Aitkin's pitcher came up big in the clutch to strike out the side which ended the game.

With the loss the Mustangs record moved to 6-5. They will play another conference game on Thursday in Onamia vs the Raiders.
