A 62-year-old woman died after her home was engulfed in flames Tuesday night.
According to a Pine County Sheriff's Office report, the victim and her husband were in separate rooms when the husband noticed fire and smoke filling the house. He managed to escape to home and made multiple unsuccessful attempts to reenter the home to find his wife.
When first responders arrived at the residence on Highway 23, they found the home complete engulfed in flames. Once the fire was under control, the fire departments were able to enter the structure and found the woman deceased.
The victim was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, and the incident remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
The Red Cross is assisting the homeowner with temporary housing at this time. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
