Four in custody after gun pointed at Mille Lacs County deputy

Four people are in custody in Mille Lacs County Jail following a Saturday night incident in Princeton Township where a firearm was allegedly pointed at a deputy, according to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office.


According to a news release, a deputy arrived at 2769 56th Avenue in Princeton Township on Saturday night to serve civil paperwork to a resident. While identifying himself to multiple people in the house and attempting to communicate, the deputy saw a male pointing a firearm at him with a laser sight.


The deputy retreated for cover and called for help; no shots were fired, according to sheriff Kyle Burton.


Princeton Police, the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office provided additional resources, and the Mille Lacs County SWAT team was called to the scene.


The male suspect eventually exited the house and was taken into custody. He was booked on second-degree assault charges, according to the news release.


In total, eight people were detained from the residence. Three were booked for obstructing legal process charges. The other four were released from the scene after being interviewed and identified.
