Head-on collision on Highway 169 in Mille Lacs County results in four deaths, passenger with life-threatening injuries

A head-on collision on Highway 169 in Mille Lacs County resulted in four deaths and one passenger sustaining life-threatening injuries on Wednesday.


According to the state patrol incident report, a Buick LaSabre was traveling just north of Shakopee Lake Road in Kathio Township around 7 p.m. when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound Saab sedan.


The Buick's driver, 21-year-old Isle resident Samantha Ajax, died in the crash. It's unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt.


The driver of the Saab, 53-year-old Minneapolis resident Michelle Rock, and two passengers, 41-year-old Onamia man Christopher Boswell and 51-year-old Minneapolis man James Ortley, also died in the crash. All three were unrestrained, according to the report.


A fourth passenger, 25-year-old Onamia resident Jessica Mitchell, was transported to St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries.


According to the state patrol, a toxicology report is pending for all parties in the crash to determine if alcohol was a factor.
