DWI arrests during the New Year Eve weekend saw an increase across the state of Minnesota.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, there were nearly 150 crashes and almost 110 DWIs between noon on New Year's Eve to New Years Day, that is up from 2019.
There were 92 total arrests on New Year’s Eve for 2021, that was down from 138 arrests in 2019. The drop in DWI arrests for 2020 were the fewest since 2016.
While Covid still remained a factor for many making New Year's Eve plans, officials saw more vehicles on the roads this season.
According to the State Patrol, no fatal accidents took place in the East Central region or throughout state as a whole this year.
