A Hopkins man is dead after drowning on a lake north of Lake Mille Lacs earlier this month.
According to the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Department, On August 13th, deputies were dispatched to Elm Island Lake to reports of a male who had fallen overboard early Saturday evening.
Reports indicate that a group of friends had been out fishing for a couple of hours and alcohol had been consumed. The victim fell overboard without a lifejacket, a friend jumped into the water to locate the male but was unsuccessful.
Authorities began searching the north end of the lake using marine electronics. The body of the victim, 25-year-old Daniel Nelson, was located with the medical examiner's finding listing the death as a freshwater drowning.
