Sandstone man returns to court in Ogilvie attempted murder case

The man accused of attacking a couple in their Ogilvie home in November is making a court appearance today.

An omnibus hearing for Sandstone resident Troy Allan Hill was scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, according to court documents.

Hill faces 21 charges in the Kanabec County case, including two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.

Hill has also been charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and 15 counts of burglary-related charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Hill allegedly beat Ogilvie residents Jeff and Becky Ponto with a hammer. Both suffered severe head and facial trauma and were hospitalized in critical condition.

A Caring Bridge post shared on December 27 said Jeff Ponto has left the ICU, and Becky Ponto has gotten her feeding tube out and continues to make progress in her recovery.
