Law Protecting Pine County Waters Outlined

Law Protecting Pine County Waters Outlined

As Pine County inches closer to November 1st’s deadline to comply with the new state buffer law, the ordinance is coming into focus.

Yesterday the Pine County board discussed fines that would be doled out in the event that citizens don’t comply with the new ordinance, which goes into effect November 1st.

However, if the area in question does not come into compliance within 11 months no fine will be issued.

Following that first 11th month grace period, every month after will see a $50 dollar fine for 6 months, until a $200 fine is implemented in a second 6 month period.

The buffer zone laws are to “protect state water resources from erosion and runoff pollution and stabilize soils, shores and banks” according to the ordinance.

Relief for Drivers as I-35 Lanes Reopen

There’s relief in sight for commuters and cabin goers alike this weekend.

As of yesterday the north and southbound lanes of I-35 at Willow River and Sturgeon Lake have reopened.

This is a major change where previously a single lane north and southbound had been open.

There will be temporary single lane closures on both sides that will continue.
