Dragons Fall in Schwan's Cup Opener

The Pine City Area Boys Hockey team was granted the honor of playing in the 2017 Schwan's Cup at the Super Rink in Blaine. Sixty-Four boys hockey teams from all over the state meet each year to play for six straight days after Christmas. The Dragons opened up the tournament with a very tough opponent, the Simley Spartans. Simley came into the tournament with a record of 6-2-1 and ranked 11th in the QRF State rankings according to Pine City went down early heading into the first intermission trailing 3-0. The Dragons fought back strong in the second getting back two goals of their own and headed into the third period trailing 4-2. Simley would take control in the third period adding two more goals giving them the victory 6-3. Jonah Bergstrom, Dusty Bergstrom, and Ethan White scored for the Dragons. Alex Laven made 34 saves on 40 shots. Pine City will now face Cambridge-Isanti in the second round at 12:30.
