Numbers released this week show that traffic fatalities statewide are the lowest they’ve been in since 1943.
While the holidays often see an uptick in traffic deaths, Pine County reported no traffic fatalities this holiday season.
343 deaths were reported in 2017- 52 motorcyclists, 38 pedestrians, and 6 bicyclists.
Of those crashes, 98 involved alcohol, 82 speed related, 80 with no seat belts, and 16 were distracted driving.
Traffic deaths are down 44 from last year’s total, and 63 lower than 2015.
