A new scam sweeping through the region has scammers attempting to impersonate an energy provider.

East Central Energy is warning citizens that the scam entails a person pretending to work for the company and warning that unless a payment is paid immediately on their account, that their electricity would be cut off.

If you do get a call from these scammers, you should call East Central Energy to verify your account status, report the scam, and also contact local law enforcement.

As a reminder you should not stay on the phone with scammers, but rather just hang up.
