Girls Basketball Playoffs Start Tonight

Girls Basketball

The Girls Basketball Sub Section Tournaments start today and several area teams are sitting with high seeds in their respective tournaments.

The Rush City Tigers finished another successful regular season going undefeated in conference play and suffering just one loss in the regular season. The Tigers hold the #2 seed in Section 6AA and will look to improve off of last season where they were knocked out in the section championship. The Tigers will have to get through St. Cloud Cathedral. The Crusaders gave the Tigers their only loss of the regular season. Rush City finished the year ranked 5th in state in Class AA. The Tigers first round opponent is Mora. That game will be tonight at 7:00 on 100.9 FM.

The other team to watch in Section 6AA is the Pine City Dragons. The Dragons finished with a record of 21-5 on the season and earned the #3 seed in the section. The Dragons struggled against Section opponents this year only going 3-4 in the section and losing to St. Cloud Cathedral, Rush City twice and Foley. The Dragons will have to figure things out quickly, because they take on Foley in the first round. The Falcons got the best of Pine City 50-45 in their lone meeting this year. The Dragons will host the Falcons on Thursday night at 7:00pm on 106.5 FM/AM1350.

The South bracket of Section 5A boasts two area teams in good position to make a run at the State Tournament. The East Central Eagles finished the regular season at 19-6 and are the #2 seed in the section. The Eagles finished a section record of 12-1 only losing to #3 seed Braham. They did not face #1 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa this season. The Eagles will take on Ogilvie who defeated Hinckley-Finlayson on Monday night.

The Bombers are the #3 seed in Section 5A with an overall record of 14-12. The Bombers will face Isle who defeated St. John's Prep. Braham defeated Isle easily in both matchups this season.
