Two Braham Students Dead Following Crash

SECOND UPDATE: NOON 3/11: the Kanabec County Sheriff's Office released info on the crash.

The crash occurred the morning of March 10th at the intersection of 195th Avenue and Rainbow Street in Comfort Township west of Henriette. The juvenile male, Butenhoff, died on the scene and the senior, Alexis Hasser, was transported to North Memorial Hospital where she died. No other new information was given by the office.

UPDATE 10 PM 3/10: a second Braham student has died after an auto crash that took place Saturday.

An announcement was made during halftime of the Braham vs. Hinckley-Finlayson boys basketball game that the accident occurred and that one student had passed away. Along with that announcement, WCMP has received confirmation that a second student involved in the crash has now also passed away.

From the school:

We are deeply saddened tonight to announce the passing of Braham Area School’s Gavin Butenhoff (11th grade) and Alexis Hasser (12th grade) as the result of a vehicle accident. Gavin and Alexis are treasured members of our Bomber family.

Gavin’s twin sister, Grace, also attends our school while Hannah attends the ALC in Cambridge and Mitchell attends Mora Elementary.

The school will be open tomorrow, Sunday, March 11, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. for students, staff, and the community of Braham as a central gathering place. We will have licensed counselors and clergy on site.

This is a time a deep sadness for our Braham Community. We offer our love and support for all those hurting.

Sincerely,

Ken Gagner Superintendent of Schools
