Diamond Dance Studio Finds Home in Willow River

Madeline Gilman started teaching dance in community education spaces across northern Pine County 2014.

The then University of Wisconsin - Superior freshmen was making the hour commute from school to Finlayson in Minnesota twice a week in order to teach. Gilman was willing to make the commute because there was need for dance teachers in that area.

In the summer of 2018, Gilman took the next step to start her own studio. "I was technically a community education program, so they would handle all the registration. This summer I created an LLC. and got a bank account," Gilman said.

With all the details were put in place she, was able to work as an independent contractor, and Gilman could rent spaces from the schools she taught in.

This month she finally found a home base to teach out in Willow River; Diamond Dance Studio was opened in a building located behind the city hall.

Gilman has not limited her teaching to just her studio. She still teaches dance to students in spaces across the county.
