Lydia Adams Headed to State Tournament


Pine City sophomore Lydia Adams qualified for the State Tournament for the second straight season this afternoon. Adams started off the day defeating Katie Scherf of Virginia 6-0, 6-0. Then she defeated Val Gall, a sophomore from Pierz 6-1, 6-0. She wrapped up the day with a victory 6-2, 6-2 over Courtney Boller of Pequot Lakes to become the Section 7A Champion.

Ella Sell, an eighth grader from Pine City, also competed in the section tournament today losing to the #1 seed Mary Skorich 6-1, 6-0 in the first round.

The Dragon tennis team lost a very close match on Monday 4-3 to Virginia who would go on to beat Pequot Lakes to qualify for the State Tournament.

Head Coach Kristin Unverzagt said, "I am so proud of the girls and how they dug in until the end. Even after the match was decided, 1st singles, 1st doubles, and 2nd doubles dug in and closed strong. The team finished their season strong with and represented PCHS very well with their great attitude and work ethic. I am so proud of the team and looking forward to next season already!"

Last year, Adams won her first round match at the State Tournament before losing to Katie Mulvey who placed third in the tournament.

The Class A Singles State Tennis Tournament is held at Reed Sweat Tennis Facility on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. This year's tournament will take place October 25th and 26th.
