The Meshakwad Community Center in Hinckley will have its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, December 21.
The center offers a full list of rooms for rent as well as a full gym that features fitness classes and personal trainers.
Ryan O'Brien, the site director for Meshakwad, wants the center to help bridge the gap between fitness and personal health.
O'Brien said, "We want to provide an opportunity for everybody to work on goals and to provide fitness for themselves."
The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe hopes that by building this center, they can fill a space in the area.
O'Brien says that Meshakwad is happy to provide a walking track for people to come in do a few laps or have a space that is available to rent.
The community center is also working to bring back boxing to the area. During an interview with WCMP, O'Brien mentioned that he remembered the boxing program that was available when he was growing up in Hinckley.
"We'd like to revitalize a program that we had for quite some time, especially in like my younger years. Really provide something for the community that is outside of the norm. A physical activity that is disciple orientated" said O'Brien.
The open house will go from 10:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 21st. You can listen to the full interview with Ryan O'Brien below.
WCMP will also be broadcasting live during the open house and ribbon cutting ceremony from 10: a.m. until noon.
