Stu Lourey will move forward as the DFL candidate in Senate District 11 special election.
Lourey beat opponent Michelle Lee in a very close race. Of the 3,631 cast for the DFL candidates, Lourey received 1,933 votes or 53%.
Lee, who gained the DFL endorsement the Saturday before the election, announced her concession in a Facebook live video.
In her statement, Lee thanked the Lourey family for their service to the district and her supporters.
Lee said, "Tonight, as you probably know, the ballot is in, but I want to thank the Lourey family for their years of dedication to the people of our region... We didn't win tonight, but I want to thank you for your time and effort through a snowstorm to get out and cast your ballot."
She went onto to ask people who voted for her to throw their support behind Lourey as he goes onto face off against Republican Jason Rarick on February 5.
