Pine Co. Sheriff's Office Warn Residents of Scammers Posing as School Districts

Scammers targeting Pine County are getting a little more creative according to the Pine County Sheriff’s Office.

Recent reports from residents say that callers are disguising their phones numbers to look like important community groups.

One report said, a caller made their number look like it was the Finlayson Elementary School on their caller ID.

Thankfully, the person receiving the call was able to tell it was a scam, but as Sheriff Jeff Nelson told WCMP, "you can't trust what your caller ID to be an accurate depiction of who's calling."

In situations where you receive calls from people asking for money or demanding payment, authorities always recommend that you should ask questions to get the full picture from the caller, and then confirm the claims made by calling back on a number you trust.
