The Hinckley-Finlayson School District released a statement Monday after a threat against the school was made by a student.
The district was vague about the nature of the threat, but they told parents that a report was made to Hinckley High School staff after school hours on Friday, May 10.
The school says they have taken steps to investigate the report including removal the accused student from classes to be interviewed by high school staff and contacting the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
The district does not believe that the student had any intentions to act.
"We believe there was a verbal threat made to students, or the school in general," the Hinckley-Finlayson School District wrote in the letter to parents. "We do not believe the individual who made the threat has the ability to carry out the threat. No students were in danger, but we recognize that hearing any threat is upsetting to students and has a negative effect on the learning environment."
This is the second rumor of a threat the school district has had in five weeks.
In an email, Superintendent Rob Prater told WCMP that these incidents are not connected, and the school district will handle the situation per their discipline policy.
Prater went on to ask parents to talk to their children about what is and is not ok to joke about.
"Students will get frustrated with other students but if they say 'I am going to shoot you' our schools must deal with the situation seriously," Prater wrote in an email. "We want to continue to teach students that handling disagreements with threats of violence is not appropriate fora school setting."
