Dragon Coach Receives Statewide Recognition


Dragon Tennis Head Coach Rick Engelstad has been named the Minnesota High School Coaches Association Recipient of the George Haun Award.

From the MSHSCA Website:

"The Minnesota State High School Coaches Association began to present the George Haun award in 1986. George Haun served as the first President of the MSHSCA in 1936 and through his strong leadership the MSHSCA has grown into one of the largest and strongest Coaches Association in the nation. The George Haun award is presented annually to a life member of the MSHSCA who has exemplified leadership and commitment to the MSHSCA. The winners have distinguished themselves by their efforts to strengthen the profession of coaching and mentoring new young coaches into the leadership roles of the MSHSCA."

Coach Engelstad told WCMP that the news is "still soaking in". He said, "I am so humbled and honored by this."

Rick has been the executive secretary for the tennis coaches association for 10 years.Before that it was the same position, but called clinic director/treasure His responsibilities with that position include working with the MSHSL on running the tennis advisory, organizing and running the state tennis clinic and state tennis banquets, and taking care of all the academic awards in the state.

Rick Engelstad has been a coach with the Dragon Tennis program for 22 years and has played a major role in the advancement of the sport in the state of Minnesota. Rick will be honored at a MSHSCA banquet this fall.
