Pine Co. Deputy injured in Early Morning Crash


The following is a press release from the Pine County Sheriff's Office:

"On August 13th at 12:41 am a Pine County deputy on patrol in Pine City was involved in a motor vehicle accident. The deputy was travelling south on Main St from 3rd Ave south when a pickup, also travelling southbound, rear ended the squad at a high rate of speed. The squad car was pushed from Main St onto the property of the First Presbyterian Church.

The deputy, as well as the driver of the pickup, were injured but able to exit their vehicles. The driver of the pickup was combative and had to be restrained by additional officers who responded. The deputy was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup, who was suspected to be under the influence, was transported to a hospital in the twin cities. The Pine County Deputy, identified as Boston Gilderman, has been with Pine County two years. Deputy Gilderman was released from the hospital on the same date.

The driver of the pickup is identified as Winston Lievsay of Pine City. The Minnesota State patrol is handling the crash investigation. The investigation and any possible charges are pending."
