Pine City Falls Just Short in Two Harbors

The Dragons football team traveled up to Two Harbors on Friday night to face the Agates. In 2018, when the teams met in Two Harbors, it was 21-0 score in favor of the Agates. The Agates got the better of the Dragons in this one, but it was a much better game than last season.

Again this week, the Dragons were without senior quarterback Konnor Jusczak. Last week, senior Duke Waxberg led the team under center, but he split the duties with junior Caleb Fromm. The team looked to originally come in with a plan of rotating Waxberg and Fromm every other series, but Fromm looked to have won the job on the second drive of the game after a thirteen play, 40-yard drive ending in a 33-yard George Ausmus field goal.

After racking up over a hundred yards on the ground last week, Tryston West led the team on the ground in week two with 88 yards and a second quarter touchdown. He was followed closely by running back turned quarterback Caleb Fromm who racked up 83 yards of his own including a 67-yard touchdown run to take the lead late in the fourth quarter.

The Dragons defense played well in this one. They held the Agates stagnant at thirteen points for the majority of the second half. The defense was led by the linebacker crew of Waxberg, Preston, Ausmus, and West who all played very well on Friday.

The Dragons ended up losing on a game-winning touchdown by Two Harbors with just under a minute left on the clock. The final score was 20-17 in favor of the Agates from the North Shore. This Friday the Dragons will host Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin. You can listen to the game and every Dragons game this season on the airwaves of 106.5 FM, 1350 AM, and streamed live on wcmpradio.com.
