A Tale of Two Halves, as Mustangs Fall to Jaguars

The Mora girls basketball team traveled to Hinckley-Finlayson on Monday night.

The two teams didn't get off to the best start, although the shooting was good. Both teams dealt with their fair share of turnovers. Halfway through the 1st half, the Jags had finally found a rhythm offensively and used that to help stop the Mustangs. Just as the Jags looked to go up by double digits, Mora turned the tables and their offense started to roll. The Mustangs couldn't tie the game and it didn't take long for H-F to go on another run themselves. Up by 8 shortly before the half they again looked poised to take a double digit lead. But a missed shot turned into an 8-0 run for Mora. The game was tied at 27 with under a minute left. But the Jags refused to go into half tied, they scored 5 unanswered points to take a 32-27 lead at the break.

The 2nd half was a little more lopsided, as H-F got out to a fast start. It didn't seem like they could miss and they well outrebounded Mora. Once the Jags pushed their lead to double digits they never looked back. But the Mustangs were not going to be counted out, they gave a valiant effort and came up with some big shots of their own and some tough rebounds. But the Jags lead was just too large and there was not enough time. The Jaguars would walk away with the victory 73-51.

The Jags now sit at 9-9 on the season and will host McGregor Tuesday night(01/30).

The Mustangs fall to 3-12 on the season. And although the record is not where they'd like it to be, they are still a team not to be overlooked.
