The Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets advanced to the Section 5A semifinals with a 6-2 win over Princeton on Wednesday night. The Bluejackets will take on #3 seed St. Cloud Cathedral on Saturday at 3:00 in Isanti.
Will O'Donovan started the scoring early for Cambridge-Isanti grabbing an even strength goal just 2:07 into the first period. The Bluejackets never looked back from there dropping in three more goals in the opening period. O'Donovan scored again while Finn Overby and Jake Brown also added goals to give the Bluejackets a 4-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
Princeton played tough in the second period getting one back at the 8:11 mark to get within two goals and give themselves life. But the Bluejackets answered very quickly when Peyton Andrews scored just eight seconds later to push the Bluejacket lead back comfortably to three.
Cambridge-Isanti added one more in the third to finish up the 6-2 win over Princeton. Cambridge-Isanti net minder Jaxon Sibell made 32 saves on 34 shots in the win.
The Bluejackets will now host #3 St. Cloud Cathedral who defeated Mora/Milaca 4-3 on a final minute goal on Wednesday night. The Crusaders come in with a record of 13-13 on the season. These two teams met in the regular season finale for Cambridge-Isanti on February 17th where St. Cloud Cathedral got the better of the Bluejackets 2-1.
Elsewhere in Section 5A, Little Falls defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 6-2 and Monticello beat River Lakes 4-3. Little Falls will now host Monticello in the other Section 5A semifinal.
