The Braham girls basketball team hosted North Branch/Rush City on Monday night.
It wasn't the start the Bombers had hoped for as they saw the Vikings out to the early lead. NB/RC seemed to be doing everything right and things were falling in place early on. They held a lead and the defense was making plays to keep Braham off the board. The Bombers would score here and there but the Vikings held their lead into the late stages of the 1st half. That's when a switch flipped for the Bombers, their offense could not be stopped and the defense held NB/RC to only a few points the rest of the half. Not only did Braham take the lead they nearly jumped out to a double digit lead. At halftime the Bombers lead 28-19.
The 2nd half was similar to the first, another good start by the Vikings and the Bombers couldn't seem to buy a basket. Even though the Bombers did score and still lead it felt like the game was slipping away. For the Vikings the could sense it and kept amping up the pressure and the offense made the tough shots and even grabbed second chance scoring opportunities. Late into the 2nd half NB/RC had gotten within one of the Braham lead. The Bombers would call, what would turn out to be a key timeout. Leading 37-36, the Vikings knew if they took the lead they could keep momentum and pull away. But Braham would go on to finish the game on a 18-4 run, which was fueled by Morgan Rysdam who hit three perimeter shots in a row. Braham would hold off the Vikings and win 55-40.
With the win they have now won three in a row. They'll prepare for what could be the biggest test of the year so far. They travel to Ogilvie to try and avenge their loss from weeks before.
For the Vikings they fall to 4-10, but have to be encouraged at what they're seeing from the squad. They'll host St. Francis Tuesday night.
