Braham mayor Nate George has been elected to represent Isanti County on the East Central Regional Development Commission.
George was chosen by Isanti County’s mayors to speak for Braham and the rest of the county’s municipalities on a regional level.
The mayor, along with state senators Mark Koran and Jason Rarick and state representative Brian Johnson, also officially announced that the city received just over $10 million for water infrastructure work during Braham Appreciation Day on Saturday.
Final designs for wastewater treatment improvements are underway, and construction is expected to start in less than a year.
Grand Casinos to be Recognized as Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Employer
The Grand Casinos of Mille Lacs and Hinckley is on track to become a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon recognized company later this month.
Brandon Schmidt, Talent Communications Manager for Grand Casinos, says this project has been years in the making. “We partnered with MLCV and both Grand Casino Hinckley and Mille Lacs, and over the last two years, we’ve been doing things to recognize our associates that are current veterans and also active military members, and also doing some work in the community,” Schmidt said.
Some of the things they have done to recognize their associates includes a wall of honor at both casino locations to pay tribute to veterans who were past and present employees.
Beyond the recognition, Schmidt says they are working on summer programming for veterans and their families to take part in for enjoyment.
Schmidt says these efforts have been the work of a larger committee that spans both the casinos and Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, the tribe’s business arm.
“So we have people from our different departments, from our IT to our HR talent, facilities and maintenance, all part of this effort, and also at the same time, a lot of fun working,” Schmidt said. “It’s been a great time.”
The official Ceremony that will recognize Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Hinckley as a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Company will be held on June 14 in Hinckley.
Golf cart incident sends child to the hospital
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office says summer calls are in full swing as they respond to complaints of ATVs and calls of stranded kayakers.
Sheriff Jeff Nelson said that one such call involved a 1-year-old girl who was injured after being run over by a golf cart driven by her 2-year-old brother.
“The golf cart was off and the kids were playing around,” Nelson said. “The adults were putting out some food and turned their back, and as a two-year-old might, figured out how to turn the key and step on the gas.”
Nelson said the girl was transported by helicopter.
He asks that people with Golf Carts and ATVs take the extra step after riding to prevent children from turning them on.

Isanti County pursuit ends with crash in Wyoming
A law enforcement pursuit that began in Isanti County ended with a crash in Wyoming on Thursday.
According to the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a Volkswagen Jetta on Highway 65 for a faulty headlight.
The Jetta failed to yield and began a pursuit, fleeing north to Highway 95 in Cambridge.
After traveling to Chisago County and moving north, the pursuit ended with the deployment of spike strips near the Wyoming Hospital. The suspect fled on foot, but surrendered after warnings of K9 units.
His charges include fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, reckless driving, and speeding. He had three outstanding warrants for his arrest.
