Charges filed in Mille Lacs County homicide investigation

A 21-year-old Isle resident has been charged with second-degree murder in a Mille Lacs County case where highway maintenance workers discovered human remains in a tote on Tuesday afternoon.

Bradley Allen Weyaus also faces a count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and two counts of interfering with a dead body.

The body was preliminarily identified as 25-year-old Isle resident Rodney Pendegayosh Jr.

On Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office was contacted by workers in regards to human remains found in the 14200 block of Twilight Road.

Sheriff’s deputies and Mille Lacs Tribal Police officers responded to the scene and gathered information about the remains, which were found along the shoreline of Mille Lacs Lake. They were discovered in a tote the workers attempted to remove from the ditch during their duties.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators discovered Weyaus had recently been seen several times in the area with a heavy tote container fastened with bungee cords and industrial tape.
