Mora played two games yesterday one against Aitkin and a late game against Rush City.
The first game they played they were able to defeat the Gobblers 4-0. Not only was it an important section win, it was also an important one for their head coach. Jayson Pautzke has been the Mora baseball Head Coach for 24 years and the win over Aitkin gave him 300 career wins! But their day was not over.
The second game they hosted another section opponent in Rush City. The Tigers came in as a top 4 team in the section.
Mora would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Strong pitching from Carter Gmahl kept the Tigers off the basepaths until the third inning. He also didn't allow them a hit until the 4th inning. Despite only being down by two runs, it felt like more for the Tigers cause of the lack of base runners. Mora would add another run in the 5th inning making it a 3-0 lead. The Tigers were quickly running out of chances to cut into the Mora lead. But in the 6th inning Rush City found a groove. After getting a leadoff single they would add another base runner but also two outs. Nathan Pace would smack a 2 run double to score the Tigers first runs of the game. But the Tigers weren't finished, and before the inning ended they tied the game. In the top of the 7th the Tigers took the lead for the first time by adding two runs making it a 5-3 game heading into the bottom of the 7th. With all momentum in the Tigers favor the Mustangs needed two runs to extend the game. They were able to add two base runners but with two outs it looked like the Tigers were on their way to a win. Alex Warner made it to the plate and drove in the two runs they need to go into extra innings. The Mustangs made quick work of the Tigers in the 8th and after a leadoff double they had the game winning run in scoring position. A wild pitch allowed the runner to move up to third, then a second wild pitch scored the game winner.
Mora improved to 9-10 on the season with the two wins. They'll wrap up their season on Thursday at Duluth Marshall.
the Tigers fell to 10-5 on the season and will finish the regular season Thursday in Pine City.
Congratulations to Jayson Pautzke on 301 career wins!
