The Pine City Dragons hockey team is playing in the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic in Blaine.
The Dragons faced off against Brookfield (Wisconsin) last night in their first game of the tournament. The Stars struck first but less than a minute later the Dragons would even the score on a goal from George Miller. Pine City would find the back of the net three more times before the 1st period ended. McCoy Leger and Dusty Bergstrom(2) scored the final three goals of the 1st. The first period goal was the first career varsity goal for Leger.
Early in the 2nd Brookfield was on the penalty kill. But less than one minute into the power play Parker Sell would make the Stars pay, as he scored to give the Dragons a 5-1 lead. The Stars would get one goal back in the middle of the 2nd period. In the 3rd, Brookfield brought the game within two. Parker Sell would make sure the Stars would not get any closer as he scored the final goal, giving the Dragons a 6-3 victory. Mason Olson earned his first career varsity win in the net for Pine City.
The Dragons will face Simley tonight at 7pm. Pine City beat the Spartans in overtime only a couple weeks ago. If Pine City wins tonight they will face the winner of Princeton and Southwest Christian Richfield on Saturday at 2pm.
