East Central Energy wins grants to support fiber work in Mille Lacs County

East Central Energy won two grants totaling nearly $7 million through the most recent round of border-to-border broadband development funding on Oct. 9.

According to a news release, the grants will support expanding ECE’s fiber service in central and northern Mille Lacs County.

The funding comes from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

ECE president and CEO Justin Jahnz said this is the third border-to-border grant the co-op has received for Mille Lacs County fiber work in 2024.

Mille Lacs County ranks 75th out of 87 Minnesota counties for broadband accessibility.
