The Pine County Sheriff's Office has announced that former Sheriff Steve Haavisto has died at the age of 66.
Haavisto served with the Sheriff's Office for over 20 years and worked as Sheriff from 1995 to 2002.
During his weekly segment on WCMP, current Pine County Sheriff Jeff Nelson said Haavisto was significant in his career in Pine County and offered his thoughts and prayers to Steve's family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, July 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Robinson Park in Pine City. Steve Haavisto will be buried with Military Honors on Tuesday, July 21, at Birchwood Cemetary.
