Isanti County commissioners table Second Amendment resolution

The Isanti County Board of Commissioners voted to table a resolution that would declare Isanti as a Second Amendment-dedicated county.

County sheriff Wayne Seiberlich was one of 77 Minnesota county sheriffs to sign a petition to encourage state lawmakers to vote against House File 396, regarding safe storage of firearms and ammunition.

Vice chair Alan Duff said the resolution seeks to support Seiberlich and show the board’s commitment to constitutional rights.

County attorney Jeff Edblad said if a resolution like this is passed, the board can expect to see more meetings with public comment related to specific political ideologies.

The resolution will return to the docket for the board’s April 4th meeting, when the full board is present. Chair Mike Warring was absent from Tuesday’s meeting.

Duff directed Edblad to adjust the language of the resolution to specifically address House File 396.
