The Isanti County Fair will be taking place this upcoming weekend and fairgoers may notice a new police presence on the grounds as the Isanti Police Department will be providing security for the event this year.
The city approved entering into the security contract during their meeting earlier this month, providing two officers for services primarily during the 6 p.m. to midnight hours from July 20th to the 24th.
The Isanti County Sheriff’s Office provided the service in years past and while fully staffed, the department couldn’t spare the deputies to staff the fair exclusively and maintain county patrol. The Sheriff’s Department will still maintain a presence on the grounds with reserves operating the department's booth and will be on call in case any situations should arise.
Council stated that this move will allow for their department to expand on their services and increase visual presence in the community.
