Kanabec County Approves Nearly All ARPA Fund Requests

The Kanabec County Board held discussions on requests for American Rescue Plan Act funds during their meeting Tuesday morning.

Some of the requests were agreed upon by all members including $20,000 for further investment in a jail camera system and $150,000 for needed courtroom technology improvements.

One request that divided the board though was a $7,750 request from the Mora School District for their Social Emotional Learning Program for mental health and wellness services for students.

While some on the board saw the request as acceptable and recommended by the Kanabec County Public Health Department, other didn’t see the need for funding such a program.

The request from the school stated that the funding would be used for additional curriculum development and to bring an outside speaker to talk to students.

The board attempted to pass all the funding requests which failed by a vote of 3-2, a second vote was brought forward which removed the school district’s request and passed unanimously.
