Kanabec County Board Hears Update on ECE’s Broadband Work

The Kanabec County Board heard an update from East Central Energy on its fiber construction project in the county.

According to Dennis Rice, ECE’s Broadband manager, since work began in May, crews have kept up with their aggressive timelines.

Rice told the board, "We've placed, so far since May 8th, 545,491 feet of fiber optic cable in Kanabec County. That is roughly 90% of the fiber build aerial in Kanabec County."

He added that they hope to be installing and splicing the underground fiber lines by early August.

ECE members who want to use its broadband in Kanabec County can expect to have their service activated by December or January. Rice says a delay in vital equipment for ECE’s Fiber optic hub building in Cambridge has been delayed. He says they ordered it in December of 2022 with the goal of getting it by September. They currently expect the equipment to be delivered by November.
