Kanabec County and the union representing most of the county’s highway and road and bridge employees reached a tentative deal on Wednesday.
According to a county news release, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 members voted in favor of an offer proposed during a mediation session.
The union had notified the county of its intention to strike on Jan. 3, triggering a ten-day cooling-off period. The strike would have started no sooner than Jan. 17.
The Board of Commissioners is expected to vote on the agreement at their Feb. 6 meeting as the next step in the ratification process.
