Area law enforcement officials are warning residents to be cautious of phone number spoofing scams.
On Jan. 2, Kanabec County Community Health was made aware that the agency’s phone number is being used to contact people and solicit personal information.
The Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office advises to use extreme caution when sharing information, especially in a phone call you didn’t initiate.
The Braham Police Department also said law enforcement is aware that city and county agency phone numbers are being spoofed in scam calls.
Callers pose as a member of the police or another law enforcement official, and set up a fake voicemail to mimic the agency.
The department reminds residents to stay vigilant, and that law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone.
