A Glendorado Township man was convicted by a Benton County jury on Thursday for multiple felonies, including seven counts of attempted murder of a police officer, in a 2023 shooting that injured five members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force just west of Princeton.
According to a news release from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, 66-year-old Karl Homberg was also convicted of assault and drug charges.
The release states that in October of 2023, members of the task force went to a home in Glendorado Township with a narcotics search warrant.
When law enforcement announced their presence and entered the residence, Holmberg immediately began firing gunshots, hitting five officers.
They left the home and called negotiators, who convinced Holmberg to come outside hours later.
The task force includes deputies from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, and officers from the Princeton and Elk River police departments. Benton County deputies also helped execute the warrant.
“We are grateful for the verdict, and we hope this sends a message that the reckless violence he chose that day cannot be tolerated,” said Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott in the release.
