The Milaca girls basketball team traveled to Chisago Lakes for the first game of the season on Thursday.
It was a slow start to the game for both sides, but that was to be expected with it being the first game of the year. Each side was able to hold a lead or two throughout the 1st half. Neither side was able to get out to a lead more than a couple points. But late in the half the Wolves were able to find a spark, both offensively and defensively. Their offense was able to push the pace and score on the fly, while the defense turned up the heat and forced the Wildcats to take tough shots. The Wolves were able to get out to a 14 point lead before half. But the Wildcats also deserve a ton of credit, even though their shots weren't falling they way they wanted and their defense gave up some shots. They were able to stay focused and not be too high or too low. They even scored right before half to cut their deficit to 12.
The 2nd half belonged again to the Wolves. Their offense stayed hot throughout and the defense was stingy. The Wildcats may have trailed the rest of the game, they continued to give all of their effort and played hard till the final buzzer. Milaca would come away with the win 52-27.
For the Wolves, this will be their last game until December 5th when they host Upsala.
Chisago Lakes will play once more before Thanksgiving, they'll travel to Spectrum next Tuesday.
