The Wolves traveled to Pine City for round one of the section 7AA playoffs on Tuesday.
Isaiah Hasz got the start on the mound for the Dragons and it was a bit of a rough start. Milaca's first three batters would reach on two walks and a base hit to lead the bases with zero outs. The Wolves had a prime opportunity to not only score first but open the flood gates early. Hasz though slammed the door striking out the next three batters to end the inning and escape the jam. The Dragons wouldn't have much luck at the plate as the Wolves starter Porter Meyer struck out 2 of the 4 batters he faced. The 2nd inning started well for the Wolves as Hasz walked the first three batters and was pulled for Nick Plasek. He was able to help the Dragons get the outs needed to get back to the plate. They would score the first run of the game after four runners walked. The Wolves early momentum slipped away as they couldn't get anyone on base the next two innings. But for Pine City they were able to cross another three runners and take a in the third and added one more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
Milaca was able to work two men on base after walks but were unable to capitalize. The Dragons half of the 5th started like the Wolves, two runners on base due to walks. That's when a frustrated Hasz made his way back to the plate. A couple pitches in and he found one he liked and absolutely demolished the ball to left center for a no doubter, pushing their lead now 8-0. Milaca had work to do but still two innings to work with as long as Pine City didn't score two more runs. Sadly, the Wolves had a one, two, three inning and brought back a confident Dragons team to the plate. Again with runners on it was Hasz' turn at the plate, and he would bring in the two winning runs to end the game 10-0 in the 6th.
For Pine City they'd await the winner of Pequot Lakes and International Falls at 4:30pm.
Milaca's season comes to an end a lot sooner than they hoped. Congrats to the Wolves on a great season!
