A Milaca man was pronounced dead by Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office deputies after a truck was found submerged in the Rum River on Saturday.
According to a news release, deputies responded to a call about a white 2009 Chevrolet pickup on its side in the west branch of the river near the 7700 block of Davenport Road at about 5:48 p.m.
The vehicle was submerged in about two feet of water. The driver, identified as 47-year-old Jonathan Grambart, was the truck’s only occupant.
Investigators believe the pickup was traveling northbound on Davenport Road before going off the road to the left and striking a concrete culvert.
It appears the vehicle went airborne before hitting a second culvert on the north side of the river.
Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
Milaca Fire and Rescue and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the scene.
