Mille Lacs Band Tribal Police respond to calls in alleged stabbing incident

The Mille Lacs Band Tribal Police responded to two calls involving stabbings on Monday.

A male party identified as 28-year-old Onamia resident Gabriel Chips was located on Highway 169 with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to Onamia Hospital with serious injuries before being flown to North Memorial Trauma Center.

The reporting party in a second call, involving a 15-year-old male who was stabbed in the leg, identified the suspect in the incident as Chips.

Investigating officers determined that the 15-year-old and a 16-year-old party found Chips driving their dirt bike, which had been stolen. Chips allegedly stabbed the 15-year-old during a physical confrontation.

The 16-year-old disarmed Chips and allegedly repeatedly stabbed him in the nick, chest, and abdomen.

The 15-year-old was treated and later released from Onamia Hospital.

Chips will be formally charged in Mille Lacs County District Court. The 16-year-old was transported to the Lino Lakes Regional Detention Facility to await charges.
